Second Part

The past Progressive is used to talk about an activity that was in progress at a point of time in the past or at the time of another action.

I started to read at 2:00 p.m. yesterday. My wife called me at 2:05 p.m.

I was reading when my wife called me.

When= at that time

/hwɛn/or /wɛn/

I was reading when my wife called me.

When my wife called me, I was reading .

While= during that time

/hwɑɪl/ or /wɑɪl/

While I was reading, my wife called me.

My wife called me while I was reading .
