FUNDAMENTAL OPERATIONS ON INTEGERS
Jared James Cabahug
Adding Integers
To add integers having the same sign, keep the same sign and add the absolute value of each number. To add integers with different signs, keep the sign of the number with the largest absolute value and subtract the smallest absolute value from the largest. Subtract an integer by adding its opposite.
4 + (-2) = 2 -4 + 5 = 12 + 1 = 3
Subtracting Integers
-15 + 7 = -8 (-5) + (-6) = -114 + 3 = 7
Keep the sign of the first number. Change the subtraction operations to addition operations. Change the sign of the numbers that follow to the opposite, i.e., positive becomes negative, and negative becomes positive. Then follow the rules for addition problems.
Dividing Integers
Multiplying Integers
Just multiply the absolute values and make the answer positive. When you multiply two integers with different signs, the result is always negative. Just multiply the absolute values and make the answer negative. When you divide two integers with the same sign, the result is always positive.

4 x 2 = 8 (-7) x 5 = -35-8 x (-5) = 40
30 ÷ (-6) = -5(-20) ÷ (-5) = 410 ÷ 10 = 1
