The significant factors and the controversies of Cavite Mutiny

Sgt. Fernando La Madrid was in charge of the mutineers. They took control of the Fort and assassinated the Spanish officers. To reclaim the Fort, the Spanish government dispatched a regiment.

In 1872, about 200 Filipino soldiers at the Fort San Felipe Arsenal in Cavite, Philippines, staged a mutiny.

The removal of long-standing personal privileges and forced labor sparked the Cavite Mutiny in 1872.

START

In 1871, Izquierdo took over for Governor General Carlos Maria de la Torre, who had resigned a few months earlier. In the Philippines, he was opposed to any reformist or nationalistic movements. His cruelty to the Filipinos and the barbaric execution of the three martyr-priests will be remembered.

The besieged mutiny was put down, and several mutineers were killed, including Sgt. La Madrid. Others were later sentenced to death or forced labor.

In 1896, the mutiny led to the Philippine Revolution.
