Testing Cleaning Products
INTRODUCTION
Soap is a chemical compound that is obtained from a reaction of a fatty acid with an alkali such as sodium hydroxide, soaps and detergents are very important in order to clean or remove substances from something. These products are very essential for our personal hygiene. We use them in order to wash our hands, our faces and our bodies but also to wash our dishes, our clothes and all the surfaces we come in contact with. (Canipec, 2021)The most important ingredients, substances and raw materials used for producing liquid detergents are acid slurry, soda ash, soda bicarb, water, perfume, sodium tripolyphosphate, soap stone, sodium silicate, sodium sulphate, synthetic dye, etc. All these create a mix of substances that produce detergents, they all have different purposes and properties or materials in order to make them, but all of them share characteristics in order to have the same result, clean. To make liquid detergent, the dry powder is simply mixed back in with a solution consisting of water and chemicals known as "solubilizers." (Balone,2014)Soap and detergent molecules mainly contain two groups of atoms necessary to achieve their cleaning effect, the first group of atoms is characterized by hydrophobicity, that is, they repel water, the second group of atoms have completely opposite properties, that is, they attract water and are called hydrophilic. These atoms reduce the tendency of water to form droplets. (Caballero, 2020)
