To talk about a likely situation in the future. Events that will possibly happen: If the weather is fine, we'll go hiking. If you study hard, you will pass your exams. If you don't practise every day, you won't improve. To talk about promises, warnings and threats: If we love each other, we will always be together. If you don't finish your homework, you won't go out.

2nd CONDITIONAL

To talk about imaginary situations in the present and in the future: If I won the lottery, I would buy a mansion. She would stay longer if she had more time. If I were taller, I would be happier. To give advice: If I were you, I would ask for help. I wouldn't do that If I were you.

3rd CONDITIONAL

To talk about regrets in the past which can't be changed. If I had had more money, I would have bought that jacket. (I didn't have enough money, so I didn't buy that jacket) We would have arrived on time if we hadn't missed the bus. (We missed the bus, so we arrived late)

MIXED CONDITIONALS

IF + PAST PERFECT / WOULD/WOULDN'T + INFINITIVE WOULD --> Might / Could / Should

To talk about the present result of a past condition If I had studied English when I was younger, I would be fluent now. If I hadn't cheated on her, we would still be together.
