Hello guys!
Today, we'll focus on....
The future tense!
How do we form the future?
To form the future we use will and will not (won't).We use the future to: -make predictions about the future based on what we think, believe or hope will or won't happen. ''New materials won't be difficult to recycle''
Next
To make offers and promises
To express spontaneous decisions:
To talk about future facts:
Don't worry! I won't tell your mum!
My mum will be 50 on her next birthday!
I'm tired. I think I will go to bed now.
Let's do some practice:
Form the sentences:
I/ leave home/ before I'm 20I'm sure / get married / they
I / not tell anyone/ promiseLucy / on time/ arrive
Correct answers:
- I will leave home before I'm 20.- I'm sure they will get married! - I promise I won't tell anyone. - Lucy will arrive on time.
TO BE GOING TO
To Be Going to:
We use going to:-to ask and answer about future intentions: 'What are you going to wear tomorrow?' 'I'm going to go shopping on Saturday'
And...
-to make predictions based on present evidence:'The team are playing brilliantly. They're going to win' -to say something is imminent: 'Oh no! That girl is going to fall off her bike!'
Complete the sentences:
Ben loves Biology! He ____ study medicine at university. They ____ go on holiday this year!
Correct answers:
Ben loves Biology! He is going to study medicine at university. They are going to go on holiday this year!
What is going to happen?
be late for school have a picnic
BE GOING TO
WILL
VS
TO MAKE PREDICTIONS ABOUT WHAT WE THINK OR BELIEVE WILL HAPPEN!
TO MAKE PREDICTIONS BASED ON PRESENT EVIDENCE!
Remember that...
English speakers also use the present continuous tense (subject + 'be' = verb-ing) to talk about future arrangements. A future arrangement is a plan that you have decided and organised with another person.
Examples:
I'm meeting Jim at the airport = Jim and I have discussed this. I am leaving tomorrow. = I've already bought my train ticket.
To sum up, we form the future with:
BE GOING TO
PRESENTCONTINUOUS
WILL
He isn't working next week.
She's going to look for a new place to live.
I promise,I will arrive early!
Any questions?
See you guys!
