"Netiquette" is network etiquette, what you should and should not do when you are online. Netiquette covers both common courtesy online and the informal "rules of the road" of cyberspace. The internet has its own culture. The common conventions of online communication between users are the rules of netiquette. They are defined by sharing information, the data shared, who it is shared with, and how it is shared. Internet etiquette, is centered around data and its use. The types of data are: text, audio, graphic, and video.

Netiquette

Be patient with newcomers. Make a good impression. Always identify yourself. Be brief whenever possible. Be universal. Don't break any laws. Be careful not to use rude or bad language online. Do not TYPE ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS for emphasis. Do unto others, as you'd have others do unto you. Remember that the written word is hard to interpret.

Conclusion

The rules of netiquette offer a great guideline for online communication. They offer a new Internet user an outline for what is professional and what is not. Help to ease some of the stresses that technology can provide. Netiquette helps users develop and maintain relationships, whether business or personal. It also helps keep group conversations constructive and friendly. Netiquette can also be beneficial in that it may discourage people from sending needless communications that can waste other people’s time. It can also discourage people from posting inappropriate or unsightly content on the internet.
