Rizal's Life

Dapitan

•July 17, 1892, Rizal arrive in Dapitan on board the steamer Cebu. • Through pained by his punishment in Dapitan, Rizal used his time and skills productively. • He kept himself busy with various occupations as a physician, engineer, educator, agriculturist, inventor, etc.

ARREST AND TRIAL

  • On December 6, 1896, the trial of Dr. Jose Rizal by a SpanRizal was executed on December 30, 1896 in Bagumbayan (Luneta), which has been renamed Rizal Park in his memory.ish military court for sedition, rebellion and conspiracy, began.
  • Rizal was arrested while en route to Spain, imprisoned in Barcelona and sent back later to Manila to stand trial. He was charged with being a traitor to Spain and the mastermind of the revolution.
  • He pleaded his innocence but he was still convicted on all three charges of rebellion, sedition and conspiracy and sentenced to death.

Execution

  • at around 6:30, Rizal was taken from cell and the march to Bagumbayan began.
  • Rizal requested the firing squad to spare his head which was granted. He also requested to be shot at his front, but it was denied.
  • Rizal was executed on December 30, 1896 in Bagumbayan (Luneta), which has been renamed Rizal Park in his memory.
  • He was executed by the Spanish colonial government for the crime of rebellion after the Philippine Revolution, inspired in part by his writings, broke out.
