May Cortés left to fight against Pánfilo de Narváez in Veracruz. Pedro de Alvarado and the Spanish massacred the Mexicas at their festival. June Cortés returned to Tenochtitlan with Narváez's army. Then, Moctezuma was killed, and the Spanish left the city in the Night of Sorrows (Noche triste).

June Cortés established the first Spanish settlement (La Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz) September Cortés fought against the Tlaxcalans and allied with them. October Cholula massacre November Spanish peacefully entered Tenochtitlan

May The Spaniards besiege Tenochtitlán and cut the city's water supply. Pedro de Alvarado and the Spanish massacred the Mexicas at their festival. August Cuauhtemoc is imprisoned, and the battle for the city is over.
