What are earthquakes and how do they happen?

Earthquakes are when two tectonic plates collide or rub against each other and make a shockwave that turns into an earthquake but it starts off as the ground shakes and that makes the ground weak so it breaks and buildings fall over because they are not steady. Underwater earthquakes are called Submarine earthquakes and turns into a tsunami when it reaches land and a submarine earthquake (tsunami) can make waves up to 100 feet and it can wipe out more than 227,898 people and thousands of animals.

Despite the threats of earthquakes, people still settle there because there are buildings that are able to hold during earthquakes and the prices of houses are lower than other houses further away from the source of the earthquake. The Insurance for the housing near the source of the earthquakes are also affected, being higher than the ones further away.
