mid 1970s

Bill Mollison and David Holmgren coin the term "permaculture"

1986

Bill Mollison brings the concept to India.

1987

First Permaculture Design Certificate (PDS) Course attended by 30 oarticipants from India and Nepal

1989

Permaculture Association of Inida (PCAI) is founded. Soon after, its sister organisation Deccan Development Society (DDS) is formed.

1990

Mollison's Permaculture Designer's Manual is jointly brought out by PCAI and DDS.

1997

Aranya Agriculture Alternatives started a permaculture farm in Medak district, Hyderabad. It evolved into a permaculture learning centre for farmers.

2016

India's first National Permaculture Convergence held in Hyderabad.
