Mary Melony decided to release her anger by hitting Patrick with their uncooked frozen dinner, which was a frozen lamb on the head.
Climax
"The man glanced around his shop. "How about a nice big slice of cheesecake? I know he likes that."
Mary Melony decided to quickly go and hide all the evidence by cooking up the lamb. She also went to the shop to make it seem that she was not at the murder. Mary bought cheesecake, potatoes and peas. Quote: "She carried the meat into the kitchen, placed it in a pan, turned the oven on high, and shoved it inside. Then she washed her hands and ran upstairs to the bedroom. She sat down before the mirror, tidied her hair, touched up her lops and face." I believe that Mary Melony put on makeup and got ready to make sure she doesn't look suspicious as she is a detective herself and knows her ways of getting away from spelling.
When the husband came home from work, he was very exhausted and mad. We could tell he was angry as he refused anything Mary offered. Usually, couples ignore each other if they are mad. Quote."..then he got up and went slowly to fetch himself another. "I'll get it she cried, jumping up. Sit down; he said," Quote 2: "This is going to be a bit of a shock to you, I'm afraid," he said. "But I've thought about it a good deal, and I've decided the only thing to do is tell you right away. I hope you won't blame me too much"...Of course, I'll give you money and see you're looked after." This quote proves that the husband, Patrick, is mad and does not want to have a conversation with her or be in the same room. Usually, when individuals are angry at each other, they give each other the silent treatment to cool down and take some time away from the other person. By the second quote, I infer that this couple talked about a divorce or a breakup as the husband said Ill give you money. While a couple is getting divorced, the community property is divided equally between both and assets or earnings accumulated during marriages are divided fairly.
When Mary Malony came back from the store, she reported a dead body and the police came to investigate. Jack Noonan was a friend of Melony's as she works investigation and O’Malley is a policeman who was at the scene of Patrick's Murder with with Sergeant Noonan. Quote: "A few minutes later she got up and went to the phone. She know the number of the police station, and when the man at the other end answered, she cried to him, "Quick! Come quick! Patrick's dead!" In this section of the short story, Melony acted as if she was innocent of his death and was acting. I know that she was acting as after the police left, as she giggled as quoted in the resolution.
Falling Action
Rising Action
Mary Melony was impatiently waiting for her husband to come home from work. She kept glancing at the clock. Quote: "she laid aside her sewing, stood up, and went forward to kiss him," Quote 2: "On the sideboard behind her, two glasses, soda water and whiskey, fresh ice cubes in the Thermos bucket. These quotes present gender stereotypes because the woman is sewing and doing housework as a housekeeper while working on getting money. For the second quote, I assume she set up this because her husband was at work. This short story connects to the 1800s and residential schools. Residential schools were a cruel way of education in which assimilated children by forcing them to cut their hair, wear a uniform and separate girls and boys. In these schools, the First Nation boys were trained in farming and girls were taught household chores and sewing.
Mary offers the police officers and investigators to consume the cooked lamb dinner to prove herself innocent as she used that to hit him. She believed it was an excellent way to hide the evidence. "And in the other room, Mary Maloney began to giggle" because she fooled the police and investigators as she got away from murdering her husband.
Lamb to the Slaughter
Resolution
Introduction
Introduction:
It is possible to resolve one's life curveballs by analyzing the situation before taking action and speaking to your partner while you are disagreeing. Violence is never the solution to any problem, and learning to work with it in a peaceful manner will save lives and relationships. In Lamb to the slaughter, Mary was angry, so she smacked Patrick with the frozen Lamb as this harmful method helps some people cope with anger. Patrick was exhausted from work and started a tough conversation, which is better when both parties are well-rested and positive mood. Mary waited expectantly for her husband to return home to be met with a bad mood and disappointing news, which was not fair. Mary could have handled the situation more calmly by talking out their plans instead of killing her husband.
