The Rap movement
What's rap + its characteristics
- Delivery style including rhyme, rhythm and spoken language;
- Part of the hip-hop culture;
- Unknown date of origin but it developed in New York;
- Takes and mingles elements from disco, soul and funk;
- It consists of content, flow and delivery.
Development of the movement
- 1980s --> spreaded around the world thanks to West Coast rappers;
- They came from Oakland and Los Angeles;
- Songs talked about personal experiences;
- FBI nominated the genre as "America's real public enemy" because of songs against the police;
- 1990s --> division between Eastern and Western rappers, today no longer existing.
Rap music today
- With streaming and new technological advances, rap is a lot versatile and has different subgenres;
- It's a new way to let new singers introduce new brands;
- Boosts economy.

- On the whole cheap clothing;
- Outworn shirts and jeans;
- Expensive shoes and chains.

- Low and wide heels or sneakers;
