Stop + gerund ( someone completely stops an action or habit) Example: I stopped smoking cigarettes. 2. Go on + infinitive (someone changes the activity that was doing.) Example: She explained us the activity and then she went on to read the book. Go on + gerund (someone continues doing the same activity) Example: She went on reading the book.

And more verbs...

3. Try + infinitive (to do something that is not easy) Example: I think you should try to save some money this month. Try + gerund (to test something). Example: I tried taking an aspirin but it didn't help. 4. Need + infinitive (an activity that someone feels is necessary to carry out). Example: I need to buy a new pair of shoes. Need + gerund (to give the sentence a passive meaning.) Example: The window needs cleaning.

And finally... 5. Remember + infinitive (Someone remembers to perform an activity.) Example: I'm sure I'll remember to invite Peter to the party. Remember + gerund (to speak about a memory that someone has, in the past) Example: Jeff remembers living in Italy like it was yesterday.
