Samaín it's the most important celebration with celtic origination of the pagan period that Europe lives until the conversion of the christianism. It's celebrated in the night of the 31th of october until the 1st of november This celebration served to mark the end of the harvesting season in the celtic culture and it was considered as celtic new year, that it made start the dark season It's both a transition festivity and an opening to a new world

During this day, the druids also piled up sacred branches and lit bonfires at different points of the village at dusk, to ward off evil spirits and guide the deceased on their way. The tradition of fire was preserved in the Galician villages, when during this night bonfires were lit with yew or rowan branches, which were then used to light the lareiras.

From the same Celtic origins of this tradition come several well-known legends. One of the most famous and well-known is the one known as the "Santa Compaña". The legend says that the compaña is the gathering of souls from Purgatory for a specific purpose. At twelve o'clock at night the deceased rise, go in procession through the main door, a living person goes in front with the cross and the cauldron of holy water, and can not, under any pretext, turn his head. Each deceased person carries a light that cannot be seen, but the smell of burning wax is clearly perceived. The retinue is not seen either, but one can perceive the air produced by its passage. The unfortunate director can only dispense himself from such a gloomy task by finding another person and handing him the cross and the cauldron, before he makes a circle on the ground, and is then free to lead the procession.

The Dia de Muertos its a Mexican holiday, celebrated in the 2nd of November in Mexico. The Día de Muertos is commonly associated with Mexican pre-Hispanic indigenous traditions both in Mexico and abroad. There are a lot of theories of the origin of this celebration, but no one of those have been comfirmed or accepted. Just two of them are the most popular, one says that it came from the indegenous and the other one says that it has a catholic origin to remeber to their friends or familiars that had died.

It’s a celebration originated in the celtic culture, where they celebrated the end of the summer harvest. In this day too, according to the tradition, the spirits of the dead were able to come back to life to harm people and crops in our world.

t’s celebrated on the 31th of October, but from the start of this month the people prepares themselves to the festivity. Halloween originated in Europe but during the 19th century immigrants brought it to North America.

usa

The festivity in USA is celebrated in numerous ways. They decorate all types of places, like streets, schools, homes, etc. They use spider webs, bats, ghosts, candles and other different things, such as one of the most importart of all, pumpkins. The THEY ALSO WEAR COSTUMES (AS IN THE REST OF THE WORLD, BASICALLY), LIKE GHOSTS, VAMPIRES, OR MOVIES CHARACTERS.

They do something that is not usually done, Trick or treat. People, usually kids, go home by home asking “trick or treat?” and they recieve all sort of sweets. Finally, they make “haunted houses”, places where they scare people that try to enter.

usa

  • The name “Halloween” comes from “All Hallows Eve,” or the day before All Saints Day
  • It is typical of Halloween night to celebrate it at parties with costume contests, where the winner of the best costume (either for being the most terrifying or for being the most original) wins.
  • There are areas of the United States where there's an activity that consists of riding in wagons full of straw until reaching a corn field. Once there, you have to walk through its corridors and find the exit without getting lost.
