* A biome is a large scale ecosystem* An ecosystem is a combination of the community and the physical (nonliving) environment and the relationships between them. Ecosystem = biotic factors + abiotic factors + relationships = community + biotope + relationships (biocenosis) * There are terrestrial ecosystems and aquatic ecosystems. * All of the ecosystems need to be protected. Over the past decades, human activity has destroyed, exploited, or polluted many of the biomes.
