how do the things move?

HOW DO THE THINGS MOVE?

The world around us is in motion, full of living and nonliving things that move in ways that can be predicted and described. Pushing, pulling, friction, and gravity are forces that affect objects at rest and in motion.

What is force?

A force is anything that can push or pull on an object. Forces influence objects that are at rest or that are already in motion.

Some facts about force and motion

  • We can define motion as the change of position of an object with respect to time. A book falling off a table, water flowing from the tap, rattling windows, etc
  • Force and friction are the factors that affect motion.
  • Force makes things move or, more accurately, makes things change their motion.
  • Two natural forces that we have experienced are the force of gravity and magnetic forces magnetic forces.
  • When a force acts on an object, it often makes it move faster or in a different direction. Once something is moving, you don't need a force to keep it moving: it will carry on moving all by itself unless another force stops it.
