WHILE
It relates to acts or situations that occur at a certain time or can continue for an indeterminate time. You can match an activity in the same time with a shorter time. The verb can be progressive or non-progressive.
WHILE STRUCTURE
[While + pasado continuo] + [pasado continuo]
it is used when two actions are mentioned in reference to the moment in the past, but they are not interrupted at all.

it is used when an action in progress is expressed in the past and is not interrupted at all.

It is used when the actions crossed one with other members was in progress. [Pasado continuo] + [When + pasado simple]
