Listen to Professor David Beagley's conference "Utopias and Dystopias".

The Hunger Games trilogy is set in Panem, a dystopian country. Every year, teenagers from the 12 impoverished districts are selected to fight in televised death matches called the "Hunger Games". Katniss is the main heroine of the books written by Suzanne Collins. If you didn't watch the movie you can have a look at the trailer:

One nation under CCTV by Banksy. A graffiti off from Oxford street in the heart of London. It's amazing to see how Banksy, the graffiti artist, managed to paint it despite the presence of a tall fence and a CCTV camera. There is more than 4 million CCTV in use in the UK. They are everywhere. These cameras coupled with IT technologies can do more and more things: analyse crime scenes, recognise faces, read car plates... Where will it stop ? Big Brother is watching you.

  1. Describe the picture.
  2. Read the text: Guess the meaning of CCTV.
  3. Read the last sentence of the text: what does it refer to ? Why ?
  4. Compare the two situations and give your opinion.
