ADVERBS
We use adverbs to add more information about a verb, an adjective, another adverb, a clause or a whole sentence and, less commonly, about a noun phrase.
ADVERBS MEANINGS AND FUNCTIONS
time I never get up early at the weekends.
degree It’s rather cold, isn’t it?
manner Walk across the road carefully!
frequency I’m always losing my keys.
place When we got there, the tickets had sold out.
focusingHe simply walked out without saying a word.
ADVERBS OF MANNER - describes how sb does an action, - go before the main verb/ after the auxiliary/ at the end of a sentence.
Manner adverbs are often formed from adjectives by adding -ly: SERIOUS - SERIOUSLY, WARM - WARMLY HAPPY - HAPPILY, HEAVY - HEAVILY POLITE - POLITELY, IMMEDIATE - IMMEDIATELY but TRUE - TRULY !!! GENTLE - GENTLY, TERRIBLE - TERRIBLY AWFUL - AWFULLY, ACTUAL - ACTUALLY DRAMATIC - DRAMATICALLY, IRONIC - IRONICALLY but PUBLIC - PUBLICLY !!!
Some common manner adverbs have the same form as adjectives and they have similar meanings.
hard, fast, free, high, low, deep. early, late, long, near, straight, right, wrong, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly

The water is a lot deeper than it seems.People should be free to say what they think. It's ten metres high. I was late for work this morning. The nearest garage is 10 miles away. The seats in the waiting room were hard and uncomfortable. -----------
She pushed her hands deep into her pockets.He offered to do it for free. We flew high above the city. We got there too late and all the tickets had been sold. I stood near the window. She tried very hard but she wasn't quite fast enough. Which subject do you like most?
Some words end in - ly, but they are adjectives: ELDERLY, COWARDLY, FRIENDLY, LIKELY, DEADLY, LIVELY, LONELY, SILLY, UGLY, LOVELY, etc. We use the words way/manner to form their adverbs.: She greeted me in a friendly way/manner.
