Concentration is the secret of strength.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Studying with background noises
I had to study hard for an oral assessment. I found it difficult to concentrate because I was anxious and my little cousins, who came to my house, were making noise.
ENEMIES OF CONCENTRATION
Mobile devices: laptop, television or music players
Annoying noises or too much silence
Physical factors: headache, illness, unhealthy lifestyle
Psychological factors: stress, anxiety, depression
When my attention is at its best...
....and its worst!
VS
My attention is higher in the morning and in the afternoon. I can concentrate better when I'm alone in my room.
My attention is lower in the evening. I can't focus at all when I feel anxious or tired too.
Let's see some tips for a better concentration!
PREPARE TO CONCENTRATE
Have everything you need to complete your task. Make sure you have your books, notes, pens, study guides, etc…
Study in a Non-Distracting Environment
Find one place and use it only for studying. Remove visual and auditory distractions.
Use Concentration Promoting Activities
Prepare to rewrite and organize notes. Create diagrams, graphs, study guides and summarize the material.
Devise a Specific StudY PLAN
A step-by-step plan makes it easier to concentrate. It will motivate you to stay focused.
Take Regular Study Breaks
Studying continuously for a long period might make your brain less receptive. When this happens, take a five minutes break.
Get Plenty of Sleep at Night
A good night sleep has a lot of positive consequences for your health. It is just as important as eating healthy and exercising.
Eat Balanced Meals regularly
Researchers found out students with healthier diets get higher grades. Avoid too much sugar and caffeine.
