Location
South Korea is a country in eastern Asia. It is located between the Sea of Japan (east), the Yellow Sea (west) and the Korea Strait.
South Korea has an area of 99,678km² and it is about the size of Iceland or a little bit smaller than U.S state of Pennsylvania.

- The flags colours mean peace and purity (freedom).
- The circle in the center represents balance in the universe.

It is famous for being the land of kimchi, K-pop, AKA. korean pop and it is REALLY popular, BTS, Stray Kids and Blackpink are the most famous bands that people know about.
People as housewarming gifts give toilet paper and laundry detergent because it is said it warms the house.
North and South korea are still in war (it started in 1953) and they say that South korea is a safe place and there are less restrictions than North korea.
The Gagnam Style song was a record breaker and it was recorded in Seoul, city in South korea.
Using one hand only to receive, give etc, (especially the left hand) is considered very rude there.

According to a survey that was made, people's favourite actor is Lee Min-ho.
And the most famous actress is Ha Ji Won, who has written her own songs.
The richest actor in South korea is Kim Soo-Hyun. He was given a 600M paycheck in 2012. From the success of Moon Embracing the Sun he won 8B dollars!
There are many boy and girl k-pop groups, two of the most famous ones are BTS and Blackpink.
Jang Yeong-Sil (장영실)(1390-1443)
Jang Yeong-Sil was a scientist and an astronomer during the Joseon Dynasty. He was born a peasant and worked for the royal family. Some of his inventions were:

Yi Sun Sin (이순신)(1545-1598)
Yi Sun Sin was a admiral (national hero) during the Joseon Dynasty. He was born in Geoncheon-dong, Seoul and became a worrior, he later became a Naval Commander Of The Three Provinces (삼도수군통제사). He won against the Japanese invasions in Korea during the Imjin wars in the 1590's. He also invented a large ship called 'The Turtle Ship' also known as Geobukseon (거북선) and won many battles with it.

In Seoul, a city in South Korea, the summers are long, warm, and a little bit cloudy, but in the winter the weather is short, freezing and dry. The temperature usually is from -6.1°C to 29.4°C and is rarely below -11.6°C or above 32.7°C.
Custom, traditions & Celebrations
Seollal:
The Seollal is the most important celebration of South Korea. It is the 1st of February, New Year's Day in the lunar calendar. Families pay respect to their ancestors with food, ceremonies and games. The food is placed in a specific order: fruits are placed in the front, the second row vegetables, the next one meat and fish and the back row bowls of rice and soup. Many types of traditional games are played in this celebration like: Yun-nori (a board game), neol-ttwi-gi (the right picture), je-gi-cha-gi (similar to hackey sack) and yeon-nal-li-gi (a kite). Koreans usually wear the traditional clothing called "hanbok".

In Korea their subjects in lower secondary are: Korean language, social studies/moral education, mathematics, science/information technology, physical education, English, music and the arts, as well as some elective courses. In upper secondary school they study Korean, mathematics, English, Korean history, social studies, science, science exploration and experiments, physical education, arts, and electives including technology, home economics, Chinese characters, a second foreign language, and liberal arts.
School
- They have school from Monday to Saturday.
- After school students stay to clean the school, they take out the trash, they vacume and they sweep the floors.
- They change into school slippers (슬리퍼)
- Korean high schools have a 16 hour school day
- Teachers are very, very respected in Korea and they have a saying, "Teachers are as high as God".
