PRESENT PERFECT

UNIT 2

PRESENT PERFECT

We form the present perfect with have/has + past participle. We normally use the contractions 've and 's after pronouns. The record store has closed. We've listened to that album many times.

THE PRESENT PERFECT

When we don't know exactly when an activity or situation started. Millions of people have bought Lady Gaga's music.

When an activity or situation started in the past and has an effect on the present. It has become much easier to listen to music.

To talk about activities and situations that started in the past and continue in the present.I haven't been in a concert for years. Maroon 5 has been a band since 2001.

With superlatives.I think that's the best song they've written in their career.

ALREADY, JUST AND YET

We often use the present perfect to talk about a recent past with already, just and yet.

We use already in affirmative sentences and questions to say what has happened or is complete, often earlier than we expected. Julie has already bought the tickets for the concert.

JUST

We use just in affirmative statements to say that something happened very recently. He's just come back from the theatre. ( He came back a few minutes ago). They've just seen Bruno Mars in concert yesterday.

YET

We use yet in negative statements to talk about something that hasn't been completed. And in questios.

Kim hasn't seen Harry Styles in concert yet. Have you listened to watermelon sugar yet? Yes, I have. / No, I haven't.

YET

JUST

ALREDY

PUT JUST BEFORE THE PAST PARTICIPLE Jim has just watched a documentary about Queen tonight.

PUT YET AT THE END OF THE SENTENCE OR QUESTION Have you paid for Spotify yet? I haven't paid for Spotify yet.

PUT ALREADY BEFORE THE PAST PARTICIPLE I've already seen Bruno Mars in concert.
