Effect On systems:
Description:
Causes:
However, Asthma causes inflammation or swelling in the lungs. Your airways narrow and produce extra mucus. This causes coughing, wheezing, and breathing difficulties.
Normally, air moves through airways from our nose or mouth into the lungs in a tube called the trachea. The trachea divides into tubes called bronchi that pass through the lungs. At the end of the bronchi are small air sacs called alveoli that fill up with air. Oxygen passes through the airways in this order until reaching the alveoli where it dissolves into the capillary network to be distributed around the body.
- Airborne allergens (Ex. pollen)
- Respiratory infections
- air pollutants
- cold air
- physical activity
Asthma is a disease where your airway tightens, swells, and produces extra mucus. This results in shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, and overall difficulty breathing

Asthma affects the respiratory system and our ability to breathe. The respiratory system is connected to the circulatory system. The respiratory diffuses oxygen through the alveoli to the circulatory system to be distributed while carbon dioxide is sent the other way to be released and exhaled. When the airways are narrowed and swollen, this affects the efficiency of this transaction.
