CULTURAL RELATIVISM
Importance:
- It's the view that all beliefs, customs, and ethics are relative to the individual.
- No one has the right to judge another society's customs.
- This is widely accepted in Modern Anthropology.
- Cultural relavists believe that all cultures are worthy in their own right and are of equal value.
It helps us to understand a culture in its own terms and not make judgments using the standards of one's own culture. It leads to the view of there is no culture superior than the rest when it comes to systems of morals, laws, politics, and many more.
Attaining Cultural Understanding
Our world is full of diversity from its nature up until its people and it is something that we should treasure. No matter the difference we all have, we still must learn to understand and respect each other's cultural backgrounds for they are the foundation of who we are. Remember to keep in mind that there's no absolute truth or standard of right and wrong and that everyone's entitled to their perspective. As we celebrate other cultures, let us also do so with our own for it's nothing to be ashamed of especially since it's our very own cultural expressions.
