The scent released by the dish is that of pork ribs roasted on the grill, which is given by Crudo di Cuneo. It starts with an extraction, where the Crudo di Cuneo ham is used to "perfume" a broth. From the rind, on the other hand, an oil is extracted to obtain its deeper essence. The recipe is then completed with the addition of two crumbles: one of ham and the other, in order to recall the toasted aroma of the pork chop, of burnt bread.
Ingredients used: Spaghetti selezione Pastificio dei Campi Butter Prosciutto crudo di Cuneo Broth of prosciutto crudo di Cuneo Parmigiano Reggiano 60 months Crusty prosciutto crudo di Cuneo Rosemary Flowers Salt Sarawak Pepper Burnt Bread
Michelangelo Mammoliti opens the kitchen doors of La Madernassa Restaurant to those who want to learn new techniques and methods useful for preparing traditional and innovative dishes. A training course that starts from the garden and the excellences of the territory, and arrives at the table.

The event takes place in the woods a few meters from the Resort, easily reachable on foot. Experts "tifolau", with their inseparable dogs, guide the participants into the search of the most precious treasure of these lands: the truffle. This underground fungus lives in symbiosis with the roots of specific trees or shrubs, with which it exchanges important nutrients, and from which it absorbs aromas and fragrances.
BOOK AT THE RECEPTION
It can only be found from the nose of a very well trained dog and from the experience of those who know the woods and where the truffle grows. The search takes place at a precise rhythm, with a controlled closeness: the smells of the forest are many and the hound must constantly be reminded to search. When a trace is found, it is time to dig together: the dog's strong legs need the delicate and cautious help of man to extract the intact truffle. An intoxicating scent rises in the air and participants can see, smell and discover this technique that is lost in the mists of time.

The naturalistic path, that extends inside the park, starts from the Glicini tunnel, goes up to the old "ciabot", runs along the vegetable garden, reaches the Garden of Aromatic Herbs, continues uphill to a lookout tower, then goes down through the Giardino dei Ciliegi to get to the Terrace with the kiosk that houses the pool bar. The entire park is surrounded by orchards and vines. Discover below all the stages of the route.
Wisteria Tunnel
It looks like a romantic tunnel. That of wisteria in bloom is a spectacle not only of perfumes. This is one of the fascinating features of our Resort, a corner of the sky where time seems to have stopped and seems to take on shades of unique colors.
It looks like the work of an impressionist painter but in reality it is only thanks to nature. Wisteria is the perfect symbol for all lovers: in the language of flowers it represents a promise of fidelity and trust in love.
Native Wood
In the highest part of the park stand oaks, hornbeams, alders, maples, hazel bushes, hawthorn and various varieties of shrubs. Here nature offers the unusual visit of small foxes, hares, small wild animals or wonderful butterflies, which free themselves in the air between the chirping of birds.
Those who have time to walk the paths, who have patience and the right eye can learn about the habits and tracks of animals in the park. Because nature always rewards you when you least expect it. Just have the foresight to respect it, always, as if it were your home. A precious asset, something that belongs to everyone, that remains for future generations and that is the fruit of what we will be able to preserve today.
The Watch Tower
The land is full of observation towers, often also fortified. It is a small turret, entirely made of wood, where it is possible to enjoy one of the most beautiful views in the area. Embrace the Roero, caress the Langhe.
Here, you could taste a glass of wine with some exclusive delicacies from the Chef, take pictures, ask your partner to marry and perhaps promise eternal love, as this Resort did with its land when it came into the world.
Vegetable Garden
In the open field, there is a large terraced area for planting: some seedlings grown in greenhouses will also be transplanted here, after the thinning phase. Cultivating in the open air is good for the body and mind.
In the garden there is also the cold greenhouse, or seedbed in a protected environment, built in 2015. Here the difference is precisely the day and night temperatures, light and humidity levels, essential to keep the cultivated plants healthy and make them grow properly. It allows to anticipate the flowering of different plants out of season and to have vegetables and fruits available without having to import them from other countries.
Didactic Vineyard
A small vineyard is grown in the Madernassa Resort Park. Our guests can choose to be accompanied to the vineyard by expert sommeliers to learn about the different typical vines of the area, completing the experience with a guided tasting on different levels.
Vitis vinifera is the scientific name of the vine plant, which belongs to the Vitaceae family. Its fruits - organized in clusters or racemes - are of the berry type. The life cycle of the vine scrupulously follows the changing of the seasons. The pause during the winter, the awakening of the plant in the spring, the production of grapes in the summer and the harvest in the autumn season. And then every moment will be the right one to discover it, to know it, to live it.
The Aromatic Path
Aromatic herbs are a precious element to enhance each recipe and transform each dish into an author's painting. And right in the park, it is possible to discover step by step the individual species, over 400, chosen directly by the chef, harvested every day at sunrise or sunset, in order to always bring them fresh to the kitchen.
The "aromatics" take their name from the pleasant scent they emanate and that is why we invite you to visit the areas dedicated to them and enjoy them on our table. The didactic tables along the route allow guests to get to know them and deepen their characteristics while walking quietly, to let themselves be enveloped by the scents and colors they offer.
Kneipp Path
Near the Cherry Trees Garden there is a relaxation area where guests can regenerate themselves with an outdoor massage or experience the Kneipp path.
The Kneipp path is a method that aims to strengthen the body, studied on the basis of hydrotherapy. In fact, the path consists in soaking the legs up to mid-calf in particular tubs that simulate the bed of a stream, and on the bottom of which river stones are placed. The water is delivered at a pressure that stimulates circulation, while the stones are a natural foot massage.
Cherry Trees Garden
The Cherry Trees Garden is always ready to welcome anyone who wants to take a break and enjoy a pleasant shade in the warmer months. The garden is home to centuries-old plants of different varieties that produce white blooms in April and ruby fruits in May.
The Cherry Trees Garden with its wooden stage - surrounded by greenery and areas on different levels - welcome seats, music and dedicated scenographies, giving the perfect setting for a symbolic ritual.
The Pagoda
Near the garden dedicated to aromatic herbs there is the Pagoda which turns into an area reserved for the Garden Table in occasion of special events.
The Garden Table is a table surrounded by nature, in a corner of paradise, to live in total privacy the pleasure of a dedicated kitchen. It is an exclusive table, followed directly by Chef Michelangelo Mammoliti and Sommelier Alessandro Tupputi, who will guide you on a starred gastronomic journey.
The Langhe, Roero and Monferrato area is certainly one of the most renowned territories in the whole world for the production of great wines. Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero, Nebbiolo, Barbera d’Alba and Barbera d’Asti are wines known and appreciated internationally.
BOOK AT THE RECEPTION
Sommelier Alessandro Tapputi will guide you on a journey through what these lands give us: wine that becomes music, artistic sensibility enclosed in a bottle. It is the story of a wine that he wants to tell. Our hills are seas to be crossed, sustainability and territoriality. Basically this is what we are: our roots.

San Lorenzo Cathedral
The cathedral is dedicated to San Lorenzo, a martyr of the 4th century AD. C., patron saint of the Diocese of Alba. The structure has a thousand-year history that has its roots in Roman times, when a public building with a civil function was built on the site where the church now stands. The plan has a shape of a latin cross and the entire building is characterized by a mixture of styles - ranging from neo-Gothic to Baroque. The interior of the cathedral is striking in the numerous effects of darkness, twilight and light beams, determined by the structure, the hours of daylight and the sun's rays - that filter through the windows.
Visitable 7/7, from 9:00 to 19:00
Beppe Fenoglio's House
Giuseppe Fenoglio, known as Beppe, was born in Alba on 1 March 1922. He was an Italian partisan, writer, translator and playwright. Nowadays, in the room where Fenoglio wrote most of his works - on the first floor of the Study Center - you can trace the writer's life: you can discover the details about his family, the Langhe and his friends, all through the original photographs of Aldo Agnelli. You can also look into a section entirely dedicated to the history of the city of Alba, its toponymy and the International Alba White Truffle Festival.

ALBA
Thinking about this town, your fantasy immediately flies over the vineyards, white truffles and hazelnut trees. All these details make the city of Alba unique in the world. 172 meters above sea level, it lies in the splendid natural scenery of the Bassa Langa, in the province of Cuneo. Alba was known as "The City of the Hundred Towers". It is a town surrounded by eleven harmonious hills, sinuous green waves broken from time to time by the line of a tower or more often by a castle. Although in the course of history it has suffered several looting, Alba has managed to keep its medieval profile almost intact. Of the hundred towers - which were the symbol of the power of the local squires - only a dozen survived and these are all located within the perimeter of the historic center.

A point from which you can enjoy a harmonious and relaxing landscape, all to be admired.
Barolo Chapel
The Barolo Chapel, formerly known as the Chapel of Santissima Madonna delle Grazie and also called the Brunate Chapel, was built in 1914 as a shelter from storms and hail for the workers of the surrounding vineyards. Later, it was bought by the Ceretto family in 1970. In 1999 the renovation was entrusted to the artists Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett, who were able to transform a ruined building into a splendid testimony of contemporary art. The Church was never consecrated.

Ratti Museum
The "Renato Ratti" Museum of Alba Wines is a collection of traditions, objects and images, right next to the production cellar. La Morra lies on the top of a hill, like many other villages in the Bassa Langa of Barolo. It was born in 1100 in the Annunziata hamlet and its ancient name, Loci Murrae, indicated a sheep pen, the place where the sheep of a Benedictine monastery grazed. It becomes a fief of the Faletti lords, together with many other possessions in the Langhe; under their dominion the Castle was built (later destroyed in the 16th century), as also palaces and walls still visible today only in part. The inhabitants place their conditions on the feudal lords and in 1402 they stipulate the Statutes of La Morra, a document in which, for the first time, nebiolium, Nebiolo, the vine that centuries later will give rise to the precious Barolo, is mentioned "king of wines and the wine of kings".

Corkscrew Museum
The Corkscrew Museum was founded in 2006 in an old cellar next to the Municipal Castle of Barolo. The visit itinerary presents 500 examples of ancient corkscrews, coming from all over the world and made starting from the second half of the 1600s. The 19 sections of the museum tell us about the birth and evolution of this simple tool, but rich in history and curiosities. A section is dedicated to precious corkscrews made by the best artisans and goldsmiths, and with precious materials. Aristocrats and religious men used to make the family coat of arms or the initials of their name affixed on these corkscrew.

DOGLIANI
The history of Dogliani is the history of wine and this is confirmed by its etymology which is Dolium : a spherical terracotta container used mainly for the transport of wine on ships (height between 1.50 and 1.60 meters and width greater than 1.50 meters). With a capacity of 1500-2000 liters, the dolia were fixed in the central part of the boat, while the free space fore and aft was occupied by the load of amphorae. For others, however, the etymology of the name derives from Dolium Jani ("Cup of Janus"). According to the legend, the god of passages and borders Giano showed up on the hills of Dogliani to taste the wine and was pleasantly impressed. It is no coincidence that the rampant lion - protagonist of the heraldic symbol of the city, holds a cup in his hands.

Monforte d’Alba takes its name from the castle that it hosts, which was surrounded by walls and built on the top of the hill in the early Middle Ages. In fact, it is said that Monforte has much more ancient origins: traces of settlements dating back to the Neolithic period (10,000 BC - 3,500 BC approximately) and some fragments of the Roman period have been found. In 2018, it became part of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy : it is located right in the middle of the land of Barolo, surrounded by a breathtaking landscape declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Indelible symbol of the village that hosts it, the Castle of Serralunga d'Alba is surrounded by hills of great wines, and already in the XII century a tower dominated and defended the village. It is considered one of the best preserved examples of a fourteenth-century noble castle in Piedmont and represents a unique case in Italy for its architectural structure, typical of a French donjon. It has not been the subject of important military events and has never been transformed for residential purposes, which is why it has allowed it to remain unchanged in its original medieval fortress structure. Hovwever - more than a military role, over the centuries the castle has played a controlling role over the production activities of the territory, as evidenced by its bold verticality, aimed at underlining the prestige of the Falletti family.

DIANO D'ALBA
Diano d’Alba is a name that probably derives from the ancient veneration of the Goddess Diana.
The Goddess Diana is the ancient divinity of hunting for Romans and Ligurians, primitive people who used to practice the cult of hunting before the apostles - such as St. Paul and St. Barnabas - preached and spread Christianity in these lands. It is presumed that the name comes from Diana because, according to the ancient pagan belief, the Goddess was worshiped in the open countryside, in the sacred woods. In fact it is known that votive woods were found around Alba. On the hill where Diano d’Alba now stands, there was a wood dedicated to the veneration of the Goddess Diana.

Beata Vergine Church
Once there was only a small church dedicated to San Lorenzo, but in 1755 a new one was designed, as large as those of the most important cities. It is a strange fact if we consider that the church was built outside an urban context and even more so because it was built with material not available locally. The church, in classical Baroque style, was finished in 1756 and embellished in the presbytery by an imposing statuary group depicting the Virgin of the Assumption. In 1767 the construction of the bell tower was completed, which gave elegance and power to the complex that shoud have amazed for its size and beauty.
Le Rocche of the Seven Brothers
What distinguishes Treiso from the other villages is Le Rocche of the Seven Brothers. Suddenly the streches of vineyards stop abruptly and a huge chasm opens. This phenomenon is created by the constant action of the waters that have shattered the hills.A legend tells that one day there were seven brothers mowing the grass in a meadow. For lunch, the sister brought them a rather poor dish, since it was Friday - a day of abstinence. Definitely hungry and angry for the meager portions of food, they began to rant against her and against God. When a priest passed, they refused the invitation of their sister to kneel, and continued with her blasphemies. The ground began to collapse under their feet, a hole was opened and the brothers fell down. Their sister was safe by standing still on a tongue of land.

Currenty, the palace is the flagship of Mango, after having been for centuries the summer residence of the Marquises of Busca. They wanted it sumptuously furnished and with the primacy of a garden, celebrated for its ornamental plants and floral crops. The ground flooe it now hosts the Regional Enoteca of Moscato d'Asti, sparkling wines from Piedmont and Dolcetti di Mango.

Mango, a village happily clinging to a hill in the middle Langa, will forever remain in the heart of Beppe Fenoglio. All this prompted in 2002 the Moscato Hills' Regional Enoteca and a spontaneous committee of citizens to the realization of an open-air itinerary that indicates, through wrought iron installations, the places that were the protagonists of the events narrated by him in his novels and stories.

Barbaresco Tower
Located in the city center, the Barbaresco Tower was built in the XI century to defend the town from the Saracens, and which rises to a height of about 36 meters. From the top you can enjoy a splendid view: on one side the Tanaro river and - looking in the same direction - you can see the other villages that make up the Langhe area, from Alba up to Cherasco. Looking out on the opposite side, however, it is even possible to see the city of Asti with the incredible alpine chain that surrounds it. The renovation of the Tower was born from the fusion between the medieval construction and the modern use of glass and steel. A panoramic lift takes visitors to 13m in height, where a suspended panoramic walkway allows access to the ticket office and then to the Tower. From the ticket office an elevator leads to the first level where, through multimedia tools, it is possible to know the stories of men, places, labels that have contributed to making Barbaresco a wine known all around the world. On the second level, illuminated by simple slits, there is the Sensory Analysis Room with three different uses: one technique, one for sensory education and one room for meetings and reunions. The most awaited is certainly the third level: the glass lift opens onto the panoramic terrace, where you can gaze at the hills and the surrounding landscape.

BARBARESCO
This is where Barbaresco wine is born, produced from 100% Nebbiolo grapes aged 1 or 2 years in wood and 12 months in the bottle, and only 4 years after the harvest does it also bear the title riserva. Its history already begins with the ancient Romans: they identified the ideal characteristics for the cultivation of wines in the Langhe area. In 1799, to celebrate the victory of the Austrians over the French, 600 liters of Nebbiolo wine were commissioned to the municipality of Barbaresco. His fame begins with Domino Cavazza, director of the Royal Oenological School of Alba, who bought the castle of Barbaresco with his properties, starting a path that will lead to the birth of the Cantina Sociale di Barbaresco. In 1966 it became DOC and in 1980 it was among the first Italian DOCG wines. Today there are 9 types of Barbaresco, coming from specific vineyards, produced only in large vintages and in small quantities, to enhance small differences in the soil and exposure.

The Clock Tower stands in a dominant position - right in the heart of the medieval village - and the small cobbled streets that climb up to it, would be enough to justify Neive's presence in the Club of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. The charm of Neive recalls the beauty of an old postcard, a little faded and a little dusty, but still scented with picturesque uses and imbued with a familiar air. Its small streets in fact are often animated by markets or village festivals. Although little remains of what was the ancient castle, the medieval charm of the center has remained unchanged: many are the houses with red tiles, close to each other, creating a picturesque setting embraced by the green of the surrounding hills. The oldest house in the village is worth seeing: since the 13th century Casa Cotto has been one of the most fascinating residences in Neive, with precious ceilings and very old fireplaces, dating back to to the Roman period. The oldest building, however, is the Tower of the Monastery of the X century, the only survivor of the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria del Piano, located on the road leading to Mango. Just past the southern gate of San Rocco, there is the Palazzo dei Conti Bongioanni Cocito, a baroque jewel built by the architect Giovanni Antonio Borghese around 1750. Note the entrance portal, the elegant cornice and the rational style of the facades. The interior of the building also features frescoes, decoration and stuccos in pure Rococo style.

Guarene Castle
For seven centuries the castle has dominated the Guarene hill. It was born in the Middle Ages as a fortress and then became in the XVIII century the new summer residence of the Roero counts. It has been personally designed and built by the most famous of the family, Count Carlo Giacinto - a significant figure of enlightened aristocrat of the Piedmontese XVIII century. It is an imposing three-storey building, surrounded by vast and elegant Italian-style gardens built and an extraordinary balcony overlooking the entire arch of hills recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. After being inhabited for ten generations of the Roero of Guarene, Vezza and Piobesi, in 1899 it passed by inheritance to the Provana di Collegno. Passed to another property in 2011, it was destined for a new vocation that combines absolute respect for museal value with high-level hospitality. In addition, the Castle houses a library that over the centuries has accumulated hundreds of books in precious bindings, among which many volumes are in unique copies.

In 2000, Guarene organized the first great party that evokes the ancient begging for eggs: Canté j'Euv del Roero. The small communities of the area - which we know today as Langhe, Monferrato and Roero - have developed over the centuries a myriad of traditions linked to the calendar of Christian holidays. Up to 45/50 years ago, there was no season or time of the year that was not strongly characterized by a ritual, a custom settled by time, a popular festival, a point of aggregation. Of all, the most popular in some countries was the begging for eggs, in dialect canté j'euv. The lengthening of the days of spring led groups of young men to take the road to the farms, in the nights of Lent before Easter. The young people came to the edge of the farmyards and there they began to sing - the song was a kind of nursery rhyme in Piedmontese dialect, in which the landlord was invited to go out and deliver some eggs. It also happened that the boys were invited into the cellar by the owners, who used to offer them a glass of good red wine and cut a homemade salami. The eggs collected were then used on Easter Monday to prepare a large omelette to which the whole town was invited, therefore a reason for communion and socialization. In the early '80, a group from Bra, led by Carlin Petrini, now president of the international Slow Food movement, revived the tradition in grand style, inviting some very famous musical groups in Italy and abroad to the Langhe. The cantè j'euv has thus become a kind of great international folklore festival: the tradition remains so alive and current, bringing different generations to rediscover the pleasure of setting out on spring evenings, expressing the desire to find each other in song and music altogether.

The latter rises at the top of an ancient path between the Tanaro and Borbore valleys, and in the beginning it was created to offer travelers a physical and spiritual point of reference, in such a steep and unstable stretch of road. Its peculiarity is that it is slightly leaning. Another interesting stop is Castelverde: this summit once housed a fence with a moat, at the center of which stood a tower that no longer exists. In 1041 the Emperor Henry III confirmed the possession of half of the place to the bishop of Asti, while between 1200 and 1500 some shares of the fiefdom were purchased by different families, in particular Malabaila and Damiano ones. The coexistence of these two families was not fully peaceful, especially with the community, and for this reason a conspiracy against the Malabaila was born in 1580. The Malabaila castle, sold in the XIX century and in advanced decay, was demolished; the area it used to occupy was transformed into a garden. The Damiano castle is now owned by the Ripa di Meana family. Inside, the hall of honor preserves frescoes by Rodolfo Morgari. In a part of the adjacent former feudal farmhouse, connected to the castle by a covered passage, the municipal "Bottega del Vino" was created.

Recognizable from afar in the Roero horizon, the church of S. Servasio dominates the hill near Castellinaldo, a site that represented a natural altar facing the vast woods that have always faced it.

CASTELLINALDO
Castellinaldo (Castlinàud in Piedmontese) is located at 312 meters above sea level. This town is considered the one with the most vineyards in all Roero: 63% of the territory is planted with vines - 120 of the total 260 hectares are destined for the appellation (107.88 Arneis, 12.33 Nebbiolo). In addition to the excellent quality of the wines produced here, Castellinaldo also stands out for its vegetables and fruit. This is due to the territory where the municipality is located, which can be divided into two distinct areas: to the South/East the slopes are not very pronounced, the soil is marble-sandy and rich in limestone (up to 50%), which makes the wines of the area generous and powerful. In the North/West the slopes are more pronounced, there are more woods and the soil is more sandy, which makes the wines of the area fresher and more mineral.

MAGLIANO ALFIERI
The Castle of the Alfieri of Magliano and The Museum of the Chalk Culture
In the Middle Ages, it was a new village of the Municipality of Asti with a military defense function. In the mid-thirteenth century the fiefdom with the castle was bought by the Alfieri brothers, one of the most important Asti families who managed to obtain complete control of the territory in a very short time.
At the end of the fifteenth century a small part of the fiefdom was attributed to the Damiano and the others were bought by the Roero, Malabaila and Parato di Castellinaldo. Despite this, the Alfieri continued to maintain supremacy over the territory. In the seventeenth century, the dominion over the Magliano area belonged to the Savoy family: Count Catalano Alfieri was a general of the Savoy infantry and over the course of the century he had a sumptuous residence in Baroque style built on the site of the medieval fortress. The most valuable parts of it were the door, the grand staircase, the hall of parties and the chapel. In recent years, the precious walnut door has been restored, decorated with carved tiles according to the Baroque style that characterizes the entire building. In the ancient rooms, there is currently a museum dedicated to plaster ceilings: the widespread use of plaster was due to economic reasons, given the considerable presence of quarries in this Piedmont area. The modest rural houses thus took on a touch of simple elegance thanks to the white attics which, if on the one hand enriched the dwelling with references to the most cultured and refined stylistic themes, on the other hand they took on the function of isolating and maintaining the heat in the rooms.

In 2009 an excavation, carried out to contain the road, confirmed through the historical stratification that the town of Magliano Alfieri dates back to the Neolithic (10,000 BC-3,500 BC approximately). In the centuries preceding Christ, the Ligurian Stazielli lived in the lowland, but some archaeological remains (pieces of precious marble, mosaic tiles, pottery shards) suggest that the Roman Magliano already existed at the end of the first century BC. The name "Magliano" derives from the personal name Manlius, a noble of the important Roman family of Quinto Manlio Severo, who almost certainly owned these lands.

Govone Castle
The Castle is located on the left bank of the Tanaro in the Roero area, bordering the Monferrato and overlooking the Langhe. Already mentioned in the years 989, the current version is the work of the Solaro Counts. It is surrounded by a large English park and a beautiful roof garden full of flower beds, fountains and trees. Several royals lived there: Vittorio Amedeo III King of Sardinia, Carlo Felice and Maria Cristina who contributed to making the residence sumptuous and rich in artistic works. Among these we find chiaroscuro frescoes by the painter Luigi Vacca, mythological decorations by Carlo Pagani and Andrea Piazza, refined wooden decorations on the ceilings and the precious cabinet-making works on floors and doors - work of the sculptor Bonzanigo. Four rooms contain precious Chinese tapestries, an expression of the fashion of the time. The Castle is part of the Piedmontese Savoy Residences circuit. Castello di Govone is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Center.

Govone hosts the "Tulips at court" event, an excellent opportunity to enhance the endangered wild tulip variety Tulipa Oculus Solis Praecox Ten, which grows in the park of the Castle and blooms for about ten days a year. In this setting, guided tours of the Castle, exhibitions, shows, parades of costumed figures and exhibitions are organized. During the Christmas period, on the other hand, Govone is transformed into “The Magical Christmas Village”: more than 100 wooden houses are distributed along the streets of the historic center, offering an extraordinary variety of products, from gastronomic specialties to artisanal ones. On this occasion, the Adeste Fideles is set up inside the Castle of Govone - an exhibition-competition involving nativity scene masters from different areas of Italy, with particular attention to Piedmontese artistic production.

In designing the "Villanova", the Roero family had a castle built in the fourteenth century with walls about three meters thick to defend themselves from the bombards - being on a lowland. The whole was surrounded by large moats, which were later filled in. Inside, in addition to the Hall of Honor and some rooms, it is advisable to visit the cellars that still preserve interesting parts of the thirteenth-century building. In the center of Canale you can visit some churches, all in Baroque style and with graceful stuccos.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, in reaction to the phylloxera (insect that attacks the leaves of the vine), the terrible hailstorm of 1906 and other very strong traumas that had undermined viticulture at the base, agriculture turned to the cultivation of peach trees. Thus was born in those years the myth of "Canale del Pesco", complete with a daily market and quantity of product such as to allow the town to export this product even beyond national borders and to relaunch the agricultural economy of the place thanks to vocation commercial of its inhabitants. Currently, the peach groves have been abundantly reduced in favor of a new concept of agriculture based on the vine, with particular attention to the Arneis vine from which the renowned white wine DOCG Roero Arneis originates.

MONTÀ
The element that most characterizes Montà are the Rocche, a 32 km long fracture that cuts through the Roero landscape, from Bra to Cisterna d’Asti. An unusual geological phenomenon of erosion that continues today and affects human life. In Montà, the Rocche constitute the most typical landscape element: wild and labyrinthine. The ecosystem of the Rocche is very delicate: different microclimates coexist in a few hundred meters of altitude; pines and downy oaks, typical of dry vegetation, grow at the top of the ridges, while at the bottom of the ravines the stagnant water creates humid and lush habitats. Walking through the historic center you will come across the Church of S.Antonio Abate and the Castle, which today, together with the park, are private. The Civic Tower stands near the ancient door of the villa, and was built by Asti after 1257 to symbolize a new community, no longer dependent on local lords. Behind the tower there is a suggestive panoramic balcony, which also marks the beginning of the so-called "Strada delle Masche", an ancient, dimly lit and winding path through the woods, which from the top of the village reached the valley floor.

MONTEU ROERO
The castle is the building that dominates the whole town with its grandeur, and was built for the first time by the Biandrate. With the sale of the fief to the Roeros in 1200, the castle was then rebuilt on the basis of the pre-existing one. Furthermore, it seems that in the winter of 1158, the German emperor Frederick Barbarossa was hosted in its rooms. In the historic center there is the Parish Church of San Nicolao, burial place of the branch of the Roero family that ruled the area from 1345 to 1700. It is characterized by a neoclassical facade. Being a village at the top, Monteu Roero is an excellent point to admire the shape and vegetation of Roero: from here, in fact, you can have incredible views of the Rocche, the vineyards and the hills that make our territory so wonderful.

The town was protected by the castle located on the ancient "Mons Acutus" (Monte Acuto), built by the Biandrate family. This one will oversee the area until 1200, when the fiefdom will be sold to the Roero who will own it until 1748, when Baldassarre Michele Roero (the last descendant of the family) sells everything to the Gromis of Trana. Here then explains the name of the town: Monteu (Monte) and Roero (from the fief of the family).

VEZZA D'ALBA
The oldest mention of the name, Vicia, appears in a donation attributable to the year 901, by the Emperor Lodovico to the Church of Asti. The name derives from a herbaceous species, Vicia Sativa, in the past also cultivated in the Roero area. The historic center is home to numerous churches and the Naturalistic Museum of Roero, consisting of a geological room and a naturalistic room.Located on the highest point of the Castellero hill, on the other hand, there is the Torion, a hexagonal building called country ciabòt, built in 1932 by the Gonella family and then bombed during the Second World War. Next to the Torion, there is a giant white bench which is part of the Big Bench project, conceived by the artist Chris Bangle.

MONTICELLO
Among the castles of the Middle Ages that can still be admired today, that of Monticello represents one of the most notable examples, both for the classic architecture and for the perfect state of conservation. The Counts Roero, far-sighted owners, have taken care of the perfect preservation of the original structure over the centuries. The visit to the castle - after observing the orderly park with various trees from the outside and climbing the external brick staircase in the south elevation, - begins with the armory, located at an intermediate level. In this room you can admire various examples of armor, spears, swords, clubs and firearms, dating back to different eras. The representative floor, the towers and the internal courtyard can also be visited. In the heart of the historic center, more precisely in Piazza S. Ponzio, the Ethnographic Museum is set up: inside its premises you can admire the exhibition dedicated to tools and ancient photographs depicting the hard work in the fields. A peculiar detail is a machine dating back to the last postwar period, born with the aim of cleaning peaches from fluff.

The castle has always been owned by a single family since 1376: the Roero of Monticello, who obtained dominion over the fiefdom from the bishops of Asti, who built a military fortress to defend the borders of the countryside, after the devastating descent of the Saracens on Alba in 920. At the beginning of 1300 the bishop of Asti had installed Ludovico Malabalia in the castle as a vassal, who soon became a true tyrant, harassing the poor local population. The bishop of Asti, annoyed by this behavior, then asked the help of the Counts of Roero: they laid siege to the castle and conquered it, freeing it from the violence of Malabalia. Following the victory, the Bishop renounced the fief of Monticello in favor of the saviors, the Roero.

In 1999 the renovation was entrusted to the artists Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett, who were able to transform a ruined building into a splendid testimony of contemporary art. The Church was never consecrated.

LA MORRA

In 2018, it became part of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy : it is located right in the middle of the land of Barolo, surrounded by a breathtaking landscape declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Serralunga d'Alba Castle

The name of the small medieval village, Grinzane Cavour, has paid homage since 1916 to the Risorgimento statesman Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour, who was mayor of Grinzane from May 1832 - just twenty-two - and held office until February 1849. The town is dominated by the imposing medieval castle, that nowadays hosts the Piedmontese Regional Enoteca and former center of the agricultural estate owned by the Cavour family. It also houses a restaurant and an Ethnographic Museum with ancient Roman wines from Alba, Cavour relics, kitchen settings, enogastronomic finds, shops and much more. In what was once the Sala delle Maschere - with a coffered ceiling and heraldic paintings, portraits, allegories and animals - today the Order of the Knights of the Truffle and Wines of Alba meetings are held.

Mango Castle
The current castle of Mango rises from the foundations of a fortress built with eminently strategic functions at the end of the XII century, with all the typical connotations of that period: secret walkways that emerged in the open countryside, prisons, places of torture, wells - where make some irreducible and dangerous opponents disappear.

The Country of the Partisan Johnny
Mango, a village happily clinging to a hill in the middle Langa, will forever remain in the heart of Beppe Fenoglio. Mango was one of the countries that Beppe used to mention the most in his novels, see Il Partigiano Johnny and Una Questione Privata.Mango welcomed him during the Resistance War, which was strenuously consumed on all the hills from the Alta to the Bassa Langa, and beyond. All this prompted in 2002 the Moscato Hills' Regional Enoteca and a spontaneous committee of citizens to the realization of an open-air itinerary that indicates, through wrought iron installations, the places that were the protagonists of the events narrated by him in his novels and stories.

Mango is known as one of the major places of production of Moscato DOCG wine. It is believed that Mango already existed in Roman times, with the name of Mangiana Colonia, a toponym mentioned in Trajan's Tabula Alimentaria. It was originally a military settlement that had the function of supplying food to the veteran imperial troops. The former soldiers, apparently, founding a colony here, gave rise to the first nucleus of the village, which was permanently inhabited in the following centuries. One of the numerous Salt Roads that once united Liguria and Piedmont also passed through Mango.

It can be visited every day from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 19:00

The summit is still known as "the castle" and is a wonderful vantage point.

MONTICELLO
