Past Progressive

What is the progressive past?Is a form of the verb that shows that the action was in progress at a given time or in a given period in the past.

Uses 1). The past continuous is used for an action developing in the past when another action interrupts it. 2). The past continuous is used to talk about actions at a specific time in the past. 3). The past continuous is used for two actions that were occurring at the same time in the past.

RulesTo form the past continuous the auxiliary verb "to be" and the verb + ing are used.

Structure to make sentences:

Examples:1. I was travelling all day and I arrived a bit late last night. 2. We were meeting in Manchester in those days. 3. She was wearing a mask to protect her face. 4. They were waiting for you all the morning.

Difference between Past Simple and Past Progressive:-The past simple tells us that something has happened before, happened and is over. Instead the progressive past speaks of something that was happening before, but for a period of time.

Similarity between Past Simple and Past Progressive -They both want to tell us things from the past
