cathedral of san lorenzo
The Cathedral of San Lorenzo is located in the historic centre of the city of Trapani, along Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Its construction dates back to 1421, commissioned by Alfonso Magnanimo. Over time it has undergone several changes, up to the current appearance. Like most of the Sicilian buildings, churches and monuments, it is in Baroque style, in fact it has a splendid facade in this style. Among the numerous works preserved and guarded by the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the work of greatest value artistic is that of Van Dyck, a canvas depicting "The Crucifixion".

the ligny tower
The Ligny tower is an ancient coastal tower located at the western end of the city of Trapani, between the Tyrrhenian sea and the Sicilian channel. It was built in 1671 by order of the captain general of the Kingdom of Sicily during the Spanish domination of Sicily. The Ligny Tower was built to defend the city from attacks by Barbary pirates. Until 1861, cannons were installed on the roof. During the Second World War it was used by the Navy as an anti-aircraft post. Today the tower is in good condition and is open to the public as an archaeological museum.

the tramontana walls
The Tramontana Walls, of which only about a kilometer remains, were part of the perimeter walls of the city during the Spanish domination. In fact, in ancient times, imposing and solid walls were built to defend cities from attacks by foreign peoples. Even the city of Trapani was not far behind. In order to better defend themselves from the attacks of Turkish predators, the Spaniards fortified even more the walls to the north of the city, a part of which, the one from which the cold and strong north wind blows, was called "Mura di Tramontana". Today there are only old ruins which, however, arouse a certain charm in Trapani, even attracting tourists. The latter are also attracted to the beach below, located just a stone's throw from the historic center.

colombia castle
La Colombaia, also called Castello di Mare, is a medieval fortress of very ancient origins, located on a small island at the end of the port of Trapani. The tower is 32 meters high, consisting of four floors, the original entrance was on the second floor. It is one of the best examples of military architecture in Sicily. During one of its many periods of neglect, the fortress became a doves' nest along the migratory route to the coasts of Africa, which is why it is known with the name of Colombaia..
