Education in Paraguay has not always been a priority, but that is changing. Currently, only 45 percent of students complete sixth grade, and adults have an average of six years of education.School in Paraguay consists of twelve years of education which are free and compulsory to the age of 14. Primary school begins at the age of six or seven and consists of six grades. Secondary school is divided into lower secondary (seventh through ninth grade) and upper secondary (tenth through twelth grade).
