Getting ideas
One of the targets is to reduce marine pollution. How could we do this? Work in groups and brainstorm ideas. Try to come up with 12 ideas in three minutes!
Narrowing down ideas
You have to create something that helps protect the oceans, and it must meet the following criteria:
- Be based around a Micro:bit, perhaps with a flashing light code.
- Be easy to make, requiring only a Micro:bit and everyday materials (aluminium foil, a lightbulb, string etc.)
In your groups, come up with a solution that meets this. You have 10 minutes!
Coding
Go to the Micro:bit website (purple button) and code you Micro:bit to do what you want it to do. No Micro:bit? Don't worry, you can use the simulator on the site.
Presentation
Present your idea to the class. Listen to the other presentations and think of constructive feedback to give.
What do you think?
Have you noticed problems with the oceans where you live or on holiday? What were they? What should be the key areas of focus? Do you think digital technology can play a big role in solving these issues? Should everyone learn some coding and be 'code literate'? Why?
