PRESENT SIMPLE

TODAY'S LESSON IS

PRESENT SIMPLE

Daisy is a baker, but she’s resting at home.

She is not baking right now, because she’s at home but she bakes when she’s at work.

  • Bake(s), work(s), do(es), etc. is the present simple.
  • I/we/you/they bake, work, do
  • He/she/it bakes, works, does

PRESENT SIMPLE

We use present simple to talk about things in general. We use it to say that something happens all the time or repeatedly, or that something is true in general:

  • Steven usually goes away every summer
  • Doctors save people’s lives
  • Water freezes at 0°

Remember that: I go to the park, but Kim goes to the park. We travel, but he travels…

PRESENT SIMPLE

We use do/does to make questions and negative sentences:

  • Do I/we/you/they read/cook? | Does he/she/it read/cook?
  • I/we/you/they don’t read/cook | He/she/it doesn’t read/cook
  • Where do you work?
  • I don’t travel alone.
  • Do you live around here?

In the following examples do is also the main verb (do you do, doesn’t do)

  • I feel like sometimes I don’t do enough.
  • What does she do?

PRESENT SIMPLE

We use the present simple to say how often we do things:

  • I walk to work every day
  • How often do you see them?
  • Marie bakes a cake once a week.
