Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch painter. He was born in the Netherlands on March 30th in 1853 and he died on July 29th 1890, so it's an artist who left away very young.He also created lots of artworks in his short, but active life. In fact, he designed more than 2,700 works in his life, but he was not really rich. He lived in poverty.

Vincent van Gogh had other jobs before being a painter. When he was young, he wanted to be a pastor in the Netherlands just like his father.Before starting to paint full time, he had many other jobs. For example, he worked in an art gallery, he worked in a book shop and he was also a teacher in London!

Vincent painted lots of artworks at his young age. In ten years, he painted over 900 paintings.At first, he used peasants as models and also used very dark colors like black, grey and dark greens in his projects. Later on, he didn't use peasants, because he didn't have money to pay them, so he started to paint flowers, landscapes and himself.

The Starry Night is a painting from Vincent van Gogh. He painted it in June 1889. He painted it when he was in the mental hospital. This is one of his last paintings.
Vincent painted this landscape at night from his bedroom window. The village is an imaginary place. It didn't exist.

The Sunflowers is also one of the most famous paintings from Van Gogh. He painted them in France in 1888 and 1889. He painted a total of five pictures of sunflowers in a vase*. Vase = gerro

These Sunflowers were very important to Van Gogh. He dedicated them to his friend Paul Gauguin (he was an artist too). Gauguin really liked the yellow colours.

This was one of van Gogh's favourite pictures.
This is van Gogh's Bedroom in his house in Arles. It was situated in France. He lived there with his friend Gauguin.
You can see lots of important objects in this bedroom. There are chairs, a small table, a big red bed, a window and some paintings. But this picture is important for the dark blue walls and doors.

Vincent van Gogh died at a very young age. He was only 37 years old. He didn't have very good health, because he sometimes forgot to eat! He had a mental disease too and he also cut off an ear from his body! At the end of his life, he was in a mental hospital in France.He died on July 29th in 1890. His body rests in peace in France.
