WOMEN IN SCIENCE : MARGARITA SALAS
(30/11/1938 - 7/11/2019)
Margarita Salas Falgueras was an Spanish doctor in biochemistry
Her most important contribution to science was the discovery of the Bacterial virus Φ29 DNA polymerase between 1967 and 1967, which let scientists amplify a DNA sample, like a hair in a crime scene, for example. Using this, in an investigation, it is way easier to analyse a small piece of DNA.
