SMALL TALK IS...

  • polite conversation about unimportant or uncontroversial topics, especially engaged in social situations
  • often between people who don't know each other well
  • great to break the ice with someone, or even avoid awkward silence

IMPORTANT SKILLS TO BE GOOD AT SMALL TALK

  • Be a social person
  • Be a good listener
  • Be able to encourage the other person to talk
  • Ask questions and follow-up questions
  • Use body language to show interest in the conversation
  • Keep a balance between being a listener and a speaker

  • The team with the youngest participant starts

  • You will have make small talk for 30 seconds about the topic. The other team decides if you advance or if you have to go back!
