Plot

In 1996 a man, while jogging on the beach, finds the boxed game Jumanji, where it had previously ended after Alan Parrish and Sarah Whittle, after playing it, had thrown it into a creek, once they had escaped the misadventures of the game. Amazed, he decides to take it home for his son Alex, who immediately loses all interest after noticing that it is a board game. During the night the game, to attract Alex's attention, turns into a video game and Alex begins to play it, being dragged into it, like everyone who starts playing Jumanji.

Twenty years later, in 2016, four high school kids ended up in detention: Bethany Walker, Martha Kaply, Spencer Gilpin and Anthony “Fridge” Johnson. The punishment inflicted by the principal consists in emptying the cellar of the school which will have to be converted into a new computer room. While cleaning, Spencer and Anthony find the Jumanji video game in an old box of things donated to the institute. The four boys start playing with it and each chooses a character, but they notice that one of them (Jefferson "Seaplane" McDounough) is not available. The four boys after choosing the character are sucked into the video game.

Arrived in the jungle, the four discover that they have changed their body with those of the chosen avatar: Spencer has become the muscular archaeologist Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Martha is the ruthless and beautiful killer Ruby Roundhouse, Bethany is the middle-aged cartographer prof. Sheldon "Shelly" Oberon, and Anthony is low-lying zoologist Franklin "Rat" Finbar.

Target

Nigel gives them a gem revealing that, long ago, the ruthless Russell Van Pelt stole it from the eye of the Jaguar god, leaving Jumanji without balance. One night Nigel took the gem from Van Pelt and ran away, but he discovered that the gem had been stolen, and has been hunting Nigel ever since. Nigel concludes by revealing that the gem must be repositioned in the Jaguar statue, in this way the four boys can return to the real world.
