Making Good Decisions with Technology
To harness the full potential of educational technology, education decision-makers need to understand the purpose and ways technology can enhance student learning (What 126, para. 2).
Making good decisions with technology can have positive impacts on student learning.
In making good decisions with technology, it is important to consider the following:
- How will technology be utilized with the current curriculum and learning outcomes?
- How can technology be used to meet the needs of learners with different learning styles?
- How will technology be used to enhance and engage students?
- What types of technology, tools, programs, and software will be utilized to prepare students for the future?
Utilizing technology will allow educators to make good decisions in developing pathways in learning based on student's learning preference and academic needs.
Utilize student data to make good decisions with technology while addressing students' needs and educational goals.
Take the time to learn about technology safety and privacy and model appropriate technology use with students; therefore, they will be able to make good decisions about technology.
Keep up-to-date on trends and communicate with adminstrators and faculty to assist with the decision-making process for technology that will benefit students and prepare them for their future careers.

02
There is a growing need for professional devleopment. Professional development provides educators the opportunity to deepen their understanding about new trends and models, effectively integrate technology to enhance students learning, and expand their knowledge on best practices while adapting to the changes in technology and education (Professional Development, 2014). Educators need to be life-long learners and continuously partake in opportunities that will assist them in deepening their skills and knowledge in technology and education.

How to Successfully form a technology committee
A successful technology committee includes a representative from all content areas that apply technology in the classroom, administrators, support staff, special teachers, educational technologists, community members, and enable all stakeholders to provide feedback (Educational Technology, 2017).
Members of the committee collaborate and consult on technology issues impacting teaching, learning, and students. They work together to make responsible, educated, and cost-effective decisions that will benefit students with the integration of technology (Educational Technology, 2017.).
In order to successfully create a technology committee, it is essential members are able to...
Participate and engage in research to create or develop the use of technology and plans in schools.
Collaborate, communicate, and be an active participant in meetings.
Analyze and make recommendations on the implementation of technology that will enhance students learning.
The Role and Actions of the Technology Committee
In forming a successful technology committee, it is important they meet regularly to collaborate and make decisions across multiple areas.
Research, evaluate, and assess new and emerging technologies.
Reviews policies, strategies, related to instructional technology.
Evaluate the effectiveness of online learning systems, programs, software, and hardware.
Set-up surveys or assessments to test the districts needs for technology related to hardware, software, or programs utilizing different criteria and evaluation processes.
Collaborate and create technology goals and future technology plans.
To make informed decisions, the committee needs to collect data and make observations that will enhance technology and learning.
Technology committees consider and evaluate trends in technology and education.
Advantages of Implementing Digital Citizenship Lessons and Programs
According to Zook (2019), "Good digital citizenship engages young students and shows them how to connect with one another, empathize with each other, and create lasting relationships through digital tools.
Engages students in learning appropriate, respectful, and responsible behaviors in a digital environment (5 Reasons, 2019).
Through digital citizenship, students will be able to identify online threats and understand different ways to handle online issues.
Equips students with the knowledge of the internet and the importance of creating a positive digital footprint (5 Reasons, 2019).
What is Internet Filtering? Benefits of Internet Filtering
- Internet filters help schools meet CIPA Compliance.
- "To receive E-rate funding for Category One Internet access and all Category Two services, you must certify that your institution is in compliance with this law" (CIPA, 2020, para. 2).
- Web filters provide districts the ability to block content and websites that are dangerous to their infrastructure and student safety.
- Along with internet filtering, schools need to create an internet safety policy and technology agreement.
- Create and educate students on internet safety while covering areas in cyberbullying, online communication, and social networking (CIPA, 2020).
- Filtering helps minimize distractions for students.
Internet filters are used to block inappropriate content and prevent students from accessing certain sites.
