Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946, in Zanzibar. He went to school in a boarding school in India. In 1963, the Bulsaras fled Zanzibar to England because of a violent revolution. In England, he studied art and became friends with artists and musicians. He worked at Heathrow Airport. In 1971, Farrokh created a band with guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and bassist John Deacon. The band was called QUEEN.Soon after, Farrokh changed his name for Freddie

Freddie had a loud voice because he had extra teeth, therefore a bigger mouth
In 1974 and 1975, Queen released their first two albums but it's with their third album that they really met with success.
In the 1980s, their popularity grew and brought together thousands of fans to their concerts.
Freddie was also a showman. His performances were impressive and he wore extravagant costumes.
In 1985, Queen performed at the Live Aid Charity concert to get money for the famine in Ethiopia. People saw this performance as the best of history.

In 1969, Freddie met Mary Austin. They dated and she quickly became his fiancee. However, the marriage was cancelled in 1973 when Freddie told her that he was bisexual. Though, the two remained friends
Freddie Mercury lived a lavish lifestyle. He collected arts. He loved champagne and threw many extravagant parties.
In 1985, Freddie started dating a man : Jim Hutton.

In 1987, the doctors told Mercury that he had AIDS. Freddie was very sick ; his boyfriend Jim and his friend Mary Austin took care of him until his death.
Freddie Mercury died on November 24th, 1991 because of AIDS. He was 45 years old
In 1992, the members of Queen created an association to get money for AIDS research.
