Storage devices are a piece of computer hardware which is used for carrying, saving and requesting data. There are primary storage devices (short- term) and secondary storage devices (long-term). Storage devices can be inside or outside a computer or server. They are used to save almost all kind data and applications except for hardware firmware. Storage devices come in different sizes depending on their functions. Another way of calling a storage device is: Storage Medium or Storage Storage Media.

Some storage devices can hold data temporaraly and some of them permanently. Every computer has both primary and secondary storage devices. Primary storage acts as short-term memory; short-term memory is the memory which is held tmporaraly. Secondary storage acts as long-term memory; long-term memory is the memory which is held permanently. Secondary storage devices are typically in size and capacity than primary storage devices. An example of primary storage device is a R.A.M. and an example of a secondary storage device is a hard disk.

There are many differet kind of storage devices. Here are some of them:1. Magnetic Storage Devices (e.g. Magnetic strip, Hard drive) 2. Optical Storage Devices (e.g. Blue-ray disk, CD-ROM disk) 3. Flash Memory Devices (e.g. Memory card, Memory stick) 4. Online and Cloud (e.g. Cloud storage, Network media) 5. Paper Storage (e.g. Optical mark regognition, Punch card)
