Modal verbs - terms of use
must
can
have to
have to - musieć We use this verb to express our duties and obligation, to talk about rules, e.g.. I have to do my homework after school. We have to wear uniforms at school.
can - umieć, potrafić, móc We use this verb to talk about abilities and possibility of doing something , also to ask for permission, e.g.. I can swim very well. I can stay out late at weekends.
must - musieć We use this verb to talk about obligation, when we strongly feel it is necessary, e.g. I must study for the test, because I want to get a good grade.

don't have to
can't - nie umieć, nie móc We use this verb to talk about the lack of abilities or when something is impossible to happen, e.g.. I can't run very fast. I can't go to the cinema with you, because I'm busy.
don't have to - nie musieć We use this verb when we talk about something that isn't necessary to happen, e.g. We don't have to tidy our room every day.
mustn't - nie wolno We use this verb to express prohibition, to talk about something that is forbiden, e.g. You mustn't swim there, it's dangerous.

I 1) Twoja koleżanka zaproponowała wspólne wyjście do kina. Poproś mamę o pozwolenie. 2) Kolega chce przepisać od Ciebie pracę domową. Uważasz, że to nieuczciwe i nie wolno tak robić. Jak mu o tym powiesz?
II 1) Widzisz, jak ktoś karmi zwierzęta w zoo. Jak powiesz, że nie wolno tego robić? 2) Odmów grzecznie koleżance, która zaprasza Cię do siebie na weekend. Wyjaśnij, że jesteś wtedy zajęty/zajęta..
IV 1) Opiekujesz się młodszym bratem. Jak powiesz mu, że nie wolno mu zbliżać się do rzeki? 2) Twój telefon się zepsuł. Zapytaj kolegę, czy możesz skorzystać z jego telefonu.
III 1) Mówisz koleżance o swoich obowiązkach domowych. Jak powiesz, że nie musisz zmywać naczyń? 2) Jak poprosisz o dodatkowy kawałek ciasta, które Ci smakuje?
