Democracy basically means the government of the people, I started as a direct democracy to the Greek cities, especially in ancient Athens, where people met to talk about their concerns. Today most democracies are indirect or representative which means that you cannot vote for a new law yourself. Furthermore, a democratic government must function in a way that reflects the desire and values of the society it governs.
Examples: When the people or society made decisions directly, this was seen in Greece or
When a community chooses on how to solve its problems.

It comes from the Greek word (oligarchia) that is, few to rule or order.
