What is Whiteboard.fi?
It is a free online whiteboard service created by Sebastian Laxell and Jaakko Virtanen and run by Digital Teaching Tools Finland Ltd, a Kahoot! company. It allows a teacher to conduct synchronous, interactive activities, visualise their students' virtual whiteboards all at once, and provide feedback. No registration or log in required.
1. Creating a Whiteboard.fi session (teacher)
- Go to https://whiteboard.fi/ - Click on +New Class
- Enter your name (- You can enable the waiting room option if you wish) - Click on +Create New Class
To give access to your students: - Click on Copy URL to Clipboard - If teaching with videoconferencing, paste the URL into the chat for your students to click on or - Ask students to go to Whiteboard.fi, and give them the Room code to enter.
2. Joining a Whiteboard.fi session (students)
- Click on the link sent to you by your teacher, - Enter your name, then click on Join Whiteboard Class or - Go to Whiteboard.fi- Click on Join Class - Enter the Room code given by you teacher - Enter your name, then click on Join Whiteboard Class
3. Using Whiteboard.fi in class
Teacher's view:
Ask your students to write, or type (by clicking on the option ), on their virtual whiteboards. The teacher can see all whiteboards at once, while students can only see their own whiteboard and the teacher's.
Student's view:
During videoconferencing, the teacher can - give oral feedbackor - send the correct answers to their students via the teacher's whiteboard.
4. Writing or typing in Whiteboard.fi
- Click on Toggle my Whiteboard - Write or type on your whiteboard, or import a picture
IMPORTANT When typing on their whiteboards, students must click outside of the text box in order for their text to become visible to the teacher.
5. Sending instructions and answers to your students' whiteboards
- Click on Push - Click on Push to students (current page only) so that your answers appear on your students' whiteboards.
6. Examples of activities to do on Whiteboard.fi
- Brainstorming - Grammar and vocabulary exercises - Short written production activities - Listening comprehension exercises - Synchronous webquests - Self-assessment
7. Saving students' work as a PDF
To save your students' work: - Click on - Click on Save all whiteboards as PDF
8. Closing a Whiteboard.fi session
To close a session: - Click on - Click on x Close room
