Learning Outcomes
A Model of Learning Objectives based on A Taxonomy for Learning, Teaching, and Assessing: A Revision of Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives
The Cognitive Process Dimension represents a continuum of increasing cognitive complexity—from lower order thinking skills to higher order thinking skills. Anderson and Krathwohl (2001) identify nineteen speciic cognitive processes that further clarify the scope of the six categories (Table 2).

Assessment
.04
The role of assessment is to support teaching and learning. The assessment cycle includes: 1.Identifying/reviewing intended learning outcomes. Learning outcomes answer the questions: What will students know? What will students be able to do? What will students value? Using the learning outcomes to guide the course design and implementation of learning activities to achieve the intended outcomes. 2. Integrating assessments to determine level of learning outcomes achievement. The assessment data may be formative and/or summative. 3. Using the findings from assessments to continually improve teaching and learning, and to ensure outcomes achievement.

Learning Activities
Experiential Learning
A committee was formed to explore pedagogical options for experiential learning such as labs, performing arts, and community-engaged learning. Contact your department chair or program director for suggestions from that report.

Learning Activities
Learning Activities for Synchronous Online Classes
Teaching synchronous online comes with unique advantages and challenges. The learning activities for synchronous online classes page explores these as well as giving detailed information on how to use Zoom, one of the most popular platforms for online synchronous classes.

Learning Activities for Asynchronous Online Classes
The learning activities for asynchronous online classes outlines different asynchronous learning activities, including discussion boards and videos.
Asynchronous online classes offer students more flexibility and reduce access challenges.

Conclusion
Although Backward Design may be difficult initially simply because it is very different, the effectiveness of this design justifies its being incorporated by all educators.
When designing curriculum based on Backward Design the teacher begins at the end, those skills and understandings that students are to learn by the end of the unit. Once the end goal is clear, the planning of the assessment piece begins. Finally, the planning moves to the activities. Focus throughout is on student understanding of the big ideas, which is accomplished through essential questions and continuous feedback.
