How are HIC and its Members advancing on Gender Equality?

In the MENA region, HIC and HLRN conducted a much-needed critical review of the FAO’s smallscale farming support strategy and its new policy guidance for investment in agricultural water in MENA. This work was done with Members and Allies cooperating with the FAO. It is an effort to encourage specialized UN agencies to respect their UN charter-based human rights obligations in their policy formulation and field operations. This work advocated also to acknowledge the role of women, that is not formally recognized in farming in the MENA region in the FAO's strategy.

How are HIC and its Members advancing on Gender Equality?

Some actions implemented by European Members and Allies include the We Effect and urbaMonde global study to assess the interrelations between the type of housing and the extent to which residents are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic (in terms of health, social and economic impacts). The results include a gender perspective.

The Cancel the rent movement

The Housing Social Movement in North Amercia is campaigning againt the current system that is failing working class people in the Covid-19 pandemic–failing to stop evictions, failing to provide safe working conditions for workers, and failing to provide free testing and healthcare statewide during an international health crisis and looming financial downturn. HIC supports this ‘Cancel the rents and mortgages" campaign with actions in 30 cities saying with a strong perspective on gender discrimination
