Theories of the Origin of Life
Hypothesis of how life was generated on our planet
Spontaneous generation
The theory of spontaneous generation argues for the idea that certain living things, such as insects, worms or mice, suddenly originate from inorganic matter.
primordial soup
In the primordial soup, a huge amount of inorganic molecules (Methane CH4, Ammonia NH4, Water H2O and Carbon dioxide CO2) in the presence of energy with high temperatures, ultraviolet radiation and the electrical discharges, would cause a chemical reaction that would give rise to organic compounds.
Panspermia
Panspermia proposes that microscopic life forms or organic molecules came to Earth through meteorites and, once on our planet, evolved into the life forms that we know today.
Endosymbiotic theory
Fuentes
The complex cell did not evolve gradually from a bacterium or an archaea, but by adding the two together in a sudden event of symbiosis. The eukaryotic cell, the building block of our bodies, originated as a society of microbes, and remains so to a great extent.
