Key Concepts

01

Causation

How did the Flores Hawk-Eagle became an endangered species?

02

Function

How does the Flores Hawk-Eagle survive in their ecosystem?

03

Responsibility

What can we do to stop decreasing the population of the Flores Hawk-Eagle?

Ecosystem

The Flores Hawk-Eagle was found in Indonesia, on the islands of Flores, Lombok, and Sumbawa, as well as on two satellite islands, Satonda and Rinca. This species has also occurred on Komodo, and has recently been discovered on Alor. The Flores hawk-eagle is known to be reliant on tropical rainforests. Most frequently they are seen flying over the canopy over slight slopes of the forest.

Alor:

Adaptation

The Flores Hawk-Eagle has large claws to help them catch the food they eat. And they have a large-sized beak that is black-colored and curved to help them eat. Fact: They also have acute eyesight, which means they might have a blurred vision.

Diet/feeding

The Flores hawk-eagle typically feeds on small mammals, birds, lizards, and occasionally snakes. It has a habit of preying on chickens.

Threat

Habitat degradation is the most severe threat to the Flores Hawk-Eagle as forest tracts are turning into cultivated landscapes. Also, this species is persecuted, due to its habit of preying on chickens. People lives in the ecosystem where the Flores Hawk-Eagle might be living. The Flores Hawk-Eagle preys on chickens, so when they eat the other people's chickens, the Flores Hawk-Eagle might be killed.
