Hanukkah

Hanukkah is the Jewish eight-day, 'festival of lights',” we celebrate it in December. We light the menorah every night, a candle for each day. we say special prayers and we eat fried foods. Since the Hanukkah miracle involved oil, it is customary to eat foods fried in oil. Like the potato latkes (pancake) and jelly-filled sufganya (doughnut).

On Hanukah, it is customary to play with a “dreidel”.It is also customary to give presents to one another and charity to poor people.

Purim

Purim is one of the most fun holidays celebrated by the Jewish people. It is celebrated every year on the 14th of March. we celebrate Purim to remember the salvation of the Jewish people. It is customary to read in Purim the book of Ester(Megillah) which commemorates the day Esther, Queen of Persia, saved the Jewish people from execution by Haman, the evil advisor of king Ahashverosh.

Purim

In Purim it is customary for children to dress up in costumes. A traditional Purim food is Haman's ears.

Passover

Pssover is another important Jewish holiday. It is celebrated by Jews every year, commemorating our escape from Egyptian slavery. Passover lasts for 7 days in Israel. On the first night of Passover, we hold a Seder feast.

Passover

In this feast we eat matzah, a cracker-like food, which reminds us that when our ancestors left Egypt they had no time to allow their bread to rise. We also eat bitter herbs to commemorate the bitter slavery. We also read the ‘Haggadah ‘ which is the story of the Exodus from Egypt.
