Who is Rihanna?

Rihanna is a Barbadian singer, actress, businesswoman, model, fashion designer and dancer. It debuted in 2005 with the single "Pon de Replay" which took second place in the Billboard Hot 100.

Rihanna's childhood

Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988 in Saint Michael Parish, Barbados, and is the first child in her family to have two younger brothers, Rorrey and Rajad Fenty. His father, with Irish and Barbadian ancestry, Ronald, is the keeper of a warehouse, and his mother, Monica, is an accountant of Guyanese origins. Rihanna started singing at the age of seven, with Alicia Keys and Beyonce as sources of inspiration.

The singer's childhood was affected by her parents, who divorced when she was fourteen, but also by the fact that her father was addicted to drugs. Rihanna attended Charles F. Broome Memorial School in high school, and later Combermere School, where she formed a musical group with two of her classmates. As a teenager, she enrolled in a military program, which she trained with the military in Barbados, with singer Shontelle as her instructor.

How she became known

In 2003, Rihanna's band was presented to the American producer Evan Rogers, who was on vacation in Barbados. Rogers later stated that "by the time Rihanna entered the room, the other two singers didn't even matter." At the age of sixteen, Rihanna moved to the U.S.A. with her mother, and Carl Sturken helped the singer record her first demo album, which included a cover of Whitney Houston's hit "For the Love of You." The recordings lasted almost a year, considering that Rihanna was still a student and could only work during the holidays. During 2004, the demonstration record reached the president of Def Jam, Jay-Z, who proposed a management contract to the singer.
