Discord is used for voice, text and video chat. More than 10 millions of people are using it daily. Discord is available on phone, computer and web browser. Users are on this platform to talk about gaming, mental health support, art projects, etc… It offers them a home with people who share the same hobbies. Recently, it's been used for educational purposes to allow students to follow their courses.

After this tutorial, you’ll know how to create a clean server and how to join ones! To illustrate this tutorial, imagine that you are a designer and you want to create a server for you and your friends to share your creations, look at theirs and talk about it in a vocal way!

Requirements
- Level of difficulty: Not so hard. I think the difficulty is equivalent to 2 stars out of 5.-Previous knowledge required: Basics computer knowledge.And the more you know how a computer works, the easier it is. -Hardware/Software Requirement: Depends on which device you want to use it.-Phone: Download the application from your device’s store, available on all OS. Your phone already has a microphone and speakers. Many now have a front camera. -Computer: If you want to download the application, you can do it via discord’s website. It’s available on all OS.You can also use it from your web browser if you don’t want to download something. You’ll need a microphone and speakers to make voice chat with your friends and a camera if you want to.

You’ll need an account whatever device you’ll use. Go on Discord’s website : https://discord.com/. Here the home page, beautiful isn’it? To register an account, you’ll have to click on the login button at the top-right corner.

Now you are on the login page! It’s not what we want! Click quickly on the register text in blue at the bottom of the login button.

Now, you’ll have to find a username! (Don’t steal mine please) , your mail address, a strong password and your birthday date. People under 13 years old can’t register and use discord. When you finished to enter your information.

Now you are on Discord. For now, you don't have friends or servers but it's okay! You will find new ones. First, click where the "!" mark is, on the "+".

So, as you can see, you can create your own server discord or join friend's one with an invitation link. But first we gonna explore public servers, go back and click on the compass located at the the left under the "+" button.

As you can see, there is a lot of server open. You can use the filters at the left and/or enter the name of what you want. For example you need help for your homework.

There is a lot of information but don't panic! I drew rectangle of differents colours and we will take it one by one. The red one, show the picture that represent the server. When you join a server, it add itself on your servers list, you can show server page by clicking on it.

I will talk about the blue rectangle. It contains the list of all the channels. You have two types of channel: - Text channels: Where you can talk only in writing. Represented by a on the left of the name's channel - Vocal channels: Where you can talk by using your microphone and use your camera represented by on the left of the name's channel

In this section, you can see all member. They have color and they are in differents sub section like in this case: "CONTACT STAFFF", "STAFF", "EVENT MANAGER", "VALUED CONTRIBUTION". It's call a role, I will explain it in depth, the purpose and how to create one later.

First of all, click on the "+" button on the left section and select "Create my own server". Now, choose a server name and upload an picture to represent it, it's not an obligation. For the tutorial, we will create a Science courses server.

Welcome to your server
We start with one default text channel and a default voice channel. Imagine that you want to create a section for Biology, Physics and Maths.

I will do with you the Biology section, it's the same steps for other section. Start by right clicking on the channel list section then select "Create Category"

Enter the name of the category, don't select private category for now, we will see later with roles. Click on "Create Category"

As you can see, a new category named "Biology". Now we will add a new text channel.

Choose a name, and click on "Create channel"We will do the same things for a voice channel.

Introduce role
Now you have one text and one voice channel. Now, we want that only biology students can read, see and join channel in this category. We'll create a new role that give access on channels biology to member with this role.

Click on your name servers to unwind a new menu and click on "Server Settings" then go to "Roles"

Click on the "+" button on the right of roles. Select a color, choose a name and select both option in "ROLE SETTINGS" to add clarity on your server.The first one will create sub section on the member list. The second will allow you to send notification in a text channel by doing @biology in your message.

Now right click on biology section and then "Edit category". Select "Permissions".

Give a role
Now you'll need to give this role to people who need it. Select a member in the member list section, left click on the member you want and choose biology. You can see that this member is now in a sub section named "Biology" and his nickname is display in the color of the same color of his role.

Invitation
Repeat the same processus for Maths and Physics then your server is ready to be share. Copy the link and send it to people that you want on your server. You can check "Set this link to never expire".
