assassination attempt on Hitler's life

The assassination attempt took place at the "Wolfsschanze", a command post near Rastenburg, East Prussia

The 20th July plot was such an attempt with the belief that a new government would save Germany from complete distruction

On 20th July 1944 the 37-year-old Stauffenberg attended a meeting with Hitler at his headquaters in East Prussia

He planted an armed bomb in a briefcase under a table near Hitler and left the room

Since the late 1930s, there had been repeated attempts to assassinate Hitler and overthrow the Nazis

Main actor was Lieutenant Colonel Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg and others

One person died instantly and three others were mortally wounded. Hitler sufferd only minor injuries and survived

Stauffenberg and most of the others involved in the plot were arrested and executed the same night

Another officer subsequently happend to move the briefcase out of place.The bomb detonated at 12:42pm

Stauffenberg was convinced that his assassination attempt was succecssful

Later there was a radio announcement that Hitler had survived
