Chicago’s West Side is known as its “other” ghetto. Although it isn’t as known as the South Side, it is considered one of the worst slum areas in the nation. The tough times faced by such disadvantaged sections are typified by their challenges even under the best economic conditions. The murder rate in Chigago is very high and it is 4 times bigger than that of New York City and is more than double the murder rate in Los Angeles. Chicago has the largest number of homicides out of all cities with a population over 1 million.

West side VS. Middle Class Neighborhoods

• The percentage of White people alone is 50%.
• 29.6% of Black or African American live in Chicago.
• 0.3% of American Indian and Alaska Native alone live in Chicago.
• The percentage of Asian people alone is 6.6%.
• Hispanic or Latino percent is 28.8%
